Round 6 : "The Personified Mannequin" Judges Critiques

HERE ARE THE CRITIQUES FOR THE FINALISTS OF ROUND 6:

FINALIST #1 ONI

The interpretation is too literal because I see a mannequin and not a model. The show window concept is also not present in this one. You forgot to include the Fashionable Pose part of the theme.

Polished look, nice stance, believable pose. Colors chosen for the clothes are in consonance with the background set-up. Good job.

Nice overall look and feel. Strikingly cool concept. Love the look. Good job.

I don't know if this satisfies the theme. But I like it. You have been hovering safe Oni , but you have to do better than this, though honestly, I just love your entry - but the real you is lost in the photo.

The challenge is to "personify" a mannequin, not to literally turn oneself into a mannequin; the former ought to be full of life, the latter lifeless. You opted to be a lifeless mannequin. On this ground, you failed to meet the challenge.

Still short with the window display look but nice shot.

FINALIST #4 NJAMES

The show window concept is not vivid and the eye make-up is unnecessary. I can appreciate this if you have an edgy pose and eye focus on the camera. It is not enticing enough to draw in crowds for a fictional store.

Interesting concept and pose. Nice accent color for the black and white ensemble. A bit dark background but still made a good job out of it. Welcome back.

Hmmm, dynamic pose and good choice of get-up. Striking set-up and cohesive look. Good job.

Remarkable! I like the jive, the energy. It will make buy whatever you are wearing. The energy is just contagious. This round, I will give it to you.

In your desire to give the audience an impression that you are inside a display window, you used an overwhelming background that devoured you instead. I cannot find any "eye-catching" element in this photo. The use of black and white does not blend with brown at all. Further, the sporty mannequin even has its reading glasses on inappropriately.

Maybe as a billboard ad.

FINALIST #6 KHALEL

At first glance you look as if you nailed the concept but after looking closely you just pasted your head in a mannequin. I am disappointed and even your facial expression is like the background of the show window, empty.

Nice effort in finding a real window display area as venue. Nice outfit, believable stance, fashionable ensemble. Only comment about the whole picture is that the foreground person should have been much nearer to you (or at least looking at the items you're wearing) to make it much more believable. Actually even without that foreground person, your entry will stand on its own. Actually love the look except for the shoes.

Quite dramatic, nice pose, nice clothes. You can actually remove the oversized bag and the person looking at the window and it will still have the same effect. You could have tilted your face a little bit lower though, in order for you to connect to the window display viewers.

Sophisticated despite the simplicity. I like the choice of clothes. I like the projection. You are safe in this round.

I love your classy clothes and classic mannequin pose.

Stylish … definitely worth a second glance.

FINALIST #8 MAKI

You nailed the concept and your pose is fashionable except for the top that you are wearing. I like that you look more polished and clean especially w/ your hair. I love the positioning of the hands and the projection of your face. You are in your zone this week.

Wonderful look, believable stance and striking set-up. Great move in wearing a cap to tame your hair. Keep it up!

Graceful pose in a mannequin kind of way. Clean yet striking look. You are in your element here. Good job.

The improvement in you is obvious. But may I say that this is a little bit overdone?

The "personified mannequin" pose is outstanding. It reminds me how well claydoh in previous cycles perfected the pose. But unlike claydoh's well-composed photos, your photo suffered in terms of image treatment. The background is like a garbage can, not a display window. Further, the use of black and red skirt over gray and crimson background simply arises from a poor sense of fashion.

I don't see a mannequin …

FINALIST #9 CJ

You are the only model who used a real show window as venue of your shoot and it is commendable. I am just distracted by the big SALE signage, Business plate, black wire, and the yellow lighting. Your pose is better than your male mannequin buddy but you just copied his facial expression.

Not really the kind of set-up I am expecting from you but you should have removed the other mannequin beside you because it creates a basis for comparison between the two of you. The pose could have been believable except that your eyes are looking somewhere else. You should have copied the way the hands of the other mannequin was made, with the thumb finger slightly away from the other fingers. The box you are also standing on was a bit off. You should have changed your position and instead opted to just use that box as a seat. That way the height won't be much more obvious. This is a weak entry for you.

What happened to you this time? Where are you looking? You should have opted not to share the limelight with another mannequin standing next to you. What more, the overall look in relation to your position and the real one is not really strong and cohesive in terms of visual impact. Better make your next entry a very good one if you plan to still stay in this competition. That is, if you are not eliminated this time.

I do not know. I like the realism. But I find the entry boring. Your projection though is alluring. Makes me feel that I want to get a piece of you rather than the clothes you are wearing.

If those are the clothes that a mannequin wears, I'd close down my shop if I were the owner. Display windows are supposed to highlight new trends and special collections. But you did succeed as a live mannequin with your pose.

It could have been better without the mannequin.
