Cycle 1 Round 5 -- Judges' Critiques

CeEJhAy_10

2. Evian_Yohann: You totally embraced the Ifugao tribesmen spirit. I saw rough action, effort, and evidently a model. You have the most brilliant background, realistic attire, and most of all every details and / or elements of your photo complimented each other.

3. Juls2: Out of all the entries you embodied the WOW Philippines theme from head to toe. My only criticism is that I do not see anything unique because you stayed 100% true to the theme and did not experiment. I want you to give it more twist and spunk.

4. lenin: Thinking about the theme this week I would say that you hit it right. The Ifugaos of Banaue will be proud. As proud of the warrior roots they have. The background seems to lend more strength to your overall look, almost like framing your fierce stature. Very well shot and well thought. The effort was there. Probably the best pic of the bunch.

5. nonsense: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

6. rotogold: There is much roughness in your photo that you have outstandingly portrayed. The naturalness in your photo has convinced me indeed that the rawness will surmount the challenge of an edited photo. The effort you took in shooting this one has complimented you well despite the very bright background. In fact it has brought out the best in you in your depiction of one coming from the mountain tribe. I can feel the strength in your legs; I can feel the weary and tired body that represents the real "triber", so to say. Again, you will have my vote.

7. SayNO: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

8. toyan: well ur shot is not bad.. but i really have to rank u guys.... the hardest part of judging is when all the good ones are the ones who are left... your outfit is good... your pose is good ur projetion is not that good.. i need more coz i cant feel you yet. THE X FACTOR is semi present... u can do better....

9. yoh_asakura: The Ifugao Hottie! WOW! Everything is perfect! Magnificent! You are truly an Ifugao guy in your photo. The bahag, arm bands, necklace and head dress are evidently from an Ifugao tribe. Well, I was a cultural dancer that is why I can tell. Your modeling factors are still on its best, you maximized the right use of your body to create the fierceness in your projection. You just again displayed your strong facial expression showing bravery, strength and a sense of pride which perfectly embody traits of a true blooded Filipino. You may have my vote.

11. ZephyrInTheS: I like the strong pose and the facial expression. There's definitely a very ethnic vibe to your photo. I love the extensions of your legs and arms, though maybe your left arm could've been placed a little bit more to your left to emphasize the stance a bit more.

claydoh

2. Evian_Yohann: I love the outfit actually though im 100% sure that the outfit is for women elderly in Ifugao tribe. There's no action but its ok...I commend you for the effort.

3. Juls2: The costume did not work for me but you carried it well and used just the right background to make it work. I thought last week was your best yet but you proved me wrong. This is fierce and your progression is phenomenal.

4. lenin: There must be a reason why you chose to pose amidst ths setting. It kinda took away some plus factor from y our otherwise nicely done costume. Other than that, I would say that much effort was behind this photoshoot. The costume was kinda exotic evoking that Mardigra feel yet staying true to the theme which is showcasing the numerous culture of this country. YOu did blend it well in your costume but you should have played more with the lighting so it can capture more of the intensity of the demeanor youre trying to project.

5. nonsense: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

6. rotogold: This is something misplaced. I don't know but the scenery isn't just right. Being covered by tall grass has lessened the impact of your portrayal. I like the way you project but overall, you are lacking in the intensity portrayed by your co-competitor. Silly as I may sound, but you could have done a Muslim entrée and you will just come out naturally. But for a macho portrayal, you will pale in comparison against your peer.

7. SayNO: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

8. toyan: well.. what can i say... claydoh's shot is good... with his outfit .. he looks like the witchdoctor of the tribe.... ang nice location for the pictorial! looks like a real jungle.

9. yoh_asakura: The Babaylan Incubus. You look liked a warlock from a tribe in Amazon River. Moreover, it seems to be a mismatch and an overdone as well. The plants are very disturbing; these should serve as your background and or foreground. You or your photographer should understand what Three-Dimensional means. Also, you looked like uncomfortable with pose.

11. ZephyrInTheS: You've been consistently good these past few rounds, and this week is no exception. I love the body angles, I like the intense look in your eyes, and overall you did a good job. I wish your face was a little bit more toward the light though.

crazycrepe

1. Ellis: Malinis ang pagkakagawa. Magandang postura ngunit masyadong bulgar.

2. Evian_Yohann: uhmm...the mask is totatlly not indigent from the Philippines and any grassroots community would think so too. But your photo, would be in every high fashion magazine thats for sure.

3. Juls2: This could have been a WOW picture if you worked your eye expression. Everything is working for you like the make-up, lighting, and even the costume (though it looks like a Mardigras outfit) but you as the subject faded in comparison. Find the inner model in you.

4. lenin: Way too contrive for my taste. The costume is duh? Its like you just grabbed anything in sight and draped it over your body and head and voila. You could have put more effort at least. Remember, you are working with a white background that just results to the attention centered mostly on you, but you did not took advantage of this.

5. nonsense: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

6. rotogold: There is always an end to a hope that I have been expecting from you. You looked lame in your photo. The good news is that I like the cleanness of overall depiction. The bad news is that I am expecting more from you. I don't know if you want to attend a Halloween party of sort but you are very very "smooth". Your rendition of a native warrior must look rough. Who would ever believe that you are a fiery soldier of the tribe, not unless you are the prince in this photo? You have lost your drive and your belief in yourself that you can make it thru the very end. Your eyes are showing it.

7. SayNO: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

8. toyan: the shot is highly photogenic.. the facial expression is very fierce.... the pose id perfect... the outfeet is both ethnic and fashionably fabulous... the background is great.... ! way to go crazycrepe!

9. yoh_asakura: The Rio de Janeiro Dancer. Not too Filipino in costume, except for the accessory at your nape. And it's very evident in your eyes that you lost enthusiasm for the competition.

11. ZephyrInTheS: I love this photo. You have a lazy facial expression, but I think it totally works for the look you're going for -- ethnic but high-fashion. The body angle is unusual for the theme, but again it works cuz it's like you're saying that ethnic can also be mainstream. Great job.

2. Evian_Yohann: wenk again. There is no attire! I'm looking for a hiogh fashion attire because thats the theme is all about. You have the weakest picture and sadly you lost the basic rule of modelling...effectivity. Obtw, you lost your neck.

3. Juls2: I am disappointed with your performance in this crucial stage of the competition. You are not progressing but rather fading as compared to the earlier stages. This picture looks like a H.S. project wherein students where asked to cut and paste Machete w/ a spear and scatter confetti beside him. Your camera angle did not capture your fierceness. Relive your entry performances.

4. lenin: What happened to you? You were one of the strongest here. Week after week of awesomeness and this? Its like Mr Caveman meets confetti. But kudos though for a finely detailed line in the angles of your body. IN this you are consistent, but overall? Sorry.

5. nonsense: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

6. rotogold: For the very first time, I find your photo weak. There is no question about the artistry in your portrayal. But I think you have overdone your interpretation of the theme. Subject matter wise, meaning you – I see no intensity. You got lost in the myriad objects surrounding you and it just overwhelmed the John Ralph that is supposed to be the center of attraction of the photo. But in fairness, you have the most natural depiction of what a warrior should look like. And for that I find your entry safe.

7. SayNO: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

8. toyan: I realized the color that u picked.. are u a thomasian? haha kidding.. well nice top view shot! and ur outfit is really nice.. very tribal.. i like the concept... u know what? i didnt realized that it was u at the first glance... u look different.. but yeah the shot is great!

9. yoh_asakura: The Neanderthal Man. You dressed just to look tribal but not Filipino. Your entry is again edited too much to imperfection. Thanks for the effort.

11. ZephyrInTheS: This is not my favorite pic of yours. In fact I think it's your weakest. I'm not too thrilled with the camera angle, because it makes you look so small. Your body angle is active, but your facial expression is a bit bland. The only thing that will save you this week, in my opinion, is your past photos.

warlocke

1. Ellis: Akala ko nung una si "Joker". Hehehe!

2. Evian_Yohann: uhmmm...wenk. what happened, iam so disappointed. everything is wrong, the background is off, looks grecian to me. the outfit look costumy, there are so many colors you looked like a living rainbow.... Your only saving grace in this pic however is your facial expression.

3. Juls2: I do not see passion in your execution even though you register well in pictures. I need more attitudes screaming in your pictures.

4. lenin: I like the facial expression. Fierce and defined. But thats just about it.

5. nonsense: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

6. rotogold: You are becoming stronger round by round. The fiesta attitude is all over you. A little weakness is that you could have done sana a Mona Lisa of sort. You are now starting to communicate with us and you are asking to vote for "me". And indeed I find that very very enticing. Great work!

7. SayNO: [no critique -- strike 2 -- eliminated as judge]

8. toyan: well ur pic is good .... its just that all pics in dis round are good... being in the 4th place... bcoz i dont like the background for ur location... BUT i can guarantee u .. that u r the hottest in dis round.. u look very manly with ur shot... take note that when a guy looked manly with a girly outfit... it only means that he is effective.. well u look manly withyour rainbow bright outfit.. hihihihi well goin back.. u actually looked like an ethnic super hero..

9. yoh_asakura: The Maskara Puppeteer. I will commend you for such creativity. But stick to the theme, WOW PHILIPPINES 'ONLY' not Wow Philippines in Europe. You exerted great effort to produce an alternative depiction of promoting the country. I noticed that you have been also edited too much to imperfection, the choice of background is wrong; the setting was not in the Philippines. It's because of the Architecture. The picture may have colorful buntings but the houses aren't of Filipino origin. Also, you have put a little smile in your face because the colors are contrary to your expression

11. ZephyrInTheS: You really are getting better and better each week. I like the body angle. Your facial expression could've been a bit more intense though. It's simple but it works.
